Zettel Types

Four types of Zettels

  1. Fleeting notes
    • Temp notes made through the day
    • Collect into one main inbox
      • Todo for quick items
      • Keep for main items. Like an archive
    • Process at the end of teh day and then delete, archive, or file them.
  2. Literature notes
    • created for specific resource such as a book, article, web page, etc
    • Filed seperately from your permanent notes, like a referencing system
    • Use direct quotes sparingly
    • be selective and rephrase it in your own words
  3. Permanent notes
    • These are the official Zettels
    • Links are a key component
    • Have they been combined as much as possible?
    • What's missing from the knowledge.
    • Does this contradict other info?
    • Atomic - 1 idea = 1 note
    • Write in full sentences as if writing to someone else.
    • Include sources and links
  4. Index or structure notes
    • Contains a group of links that serve as an entry for a topic or concept.
    • create a main index note as an entry point similar to a sitemap
    • Create index or structure notes on broader topics
